feel for the sheer awfulness of it without any formatting. *g*
Pairing(s): Cupid/Strife, Deimos/Phobos, Ares/Joxer, Hercules/Iolaus, and many others.
TPTB gazed upon their work in satisfaction, knowing they had created wonders never before seen. But their work was not yet done. For TPTB possessed a large sense of humor and therefore did they add subtext and thinly veiled innuendo to their magnificent creation. The audience looked upon this and drooled mindlessly. And then began to write.
Fanfic was born in the world of Hercules and Xena and across the globe did the fans begin to spin tales of their favorite characters. TPTB, generous and wise as they are, looked upon this with great tolerance. Though they are all knowing and powerful, TPTB are also benevolent, never raising the hand of the almighty Copyright Law to smite the authors.
So the tales began to grow. First came the Hercules/Iolaus, for the fans did see that the subtext was as subtle as a cyclops in a tutu. Then came the Xena/Gabrielle, as the subtext was nearly realtext. But others fans took a different path. The subtle call of the black leather did prove hard to resist, and many fans looked upon Ares with lust. Yet others let their gaze fall upon Strife, saying, “He is handsome and must be written naked as often as possible.” And so the world of H/X fanfic did grow massively. Mailing lists were begat for multitudes of characters and the fans did flock to join and write.
Through it all, TPTB looked on from afar. And though they eventually mutilated their creation out of all recognizable shape, they remain tolerant of the world of fanfic, and in return, the fanfic authors do bow down before the alter of the Copyright, abasing themselves at the feet of the Almighty Renaissance Pictures and those divine creators of our favorite characters. TPTB and the authors do co-exist peacefully and, the Almighty willing, so shall it ever be.
Amen.
